August Activities
There will be no general meetings during the month of August. However, feel free to join us for Sew Days.
Bring your sewing machine to sew a boutique project AND/OR a pattern to share with others so we can all add to the show boutique.
ONGOING PROJECT - YARD SQUARE QUILT AUCTION
If you would like to participate: Auction is scheduled for August 31, 2024.
The quilt should be within one inch of 36" x 36" square.
Must include a 4" hanging sleeve.
If a panel is used, it must include some piecework.
Label your quilt with the Quilt Name, your name, year, and the quilter's name if quilted by someone else.
Quilts should be handed in by the first meetings in June.
This is our 20th year of hosting the auction. Please consider donating a quilt this year.
ROW BY ROW
This year, instead of doing a round robin challenge, we will be working on a Row by Row quilt challenge. There will be no passing from quilter to another. Rules are simple: Decide on whether you want to do 6 rows of 9" by 36", 3 rows of 18" by 18" blocks, or a combination of both. Each month you will be given three songs for inspiration for that month's challenge. During our meetings, we will have a table set up for everyone participating to display their round for everyone to see and get inspiration. Looking forward to seeing everyone's ideas.
Month 1, the songs are: "Take Me Home, Country Road" by John Denver, "West Virginia, My Home Sweet Home" by Julian G. Hearne, and "Hills of West Virginia" by Phil Ochs.
Month 2, the songs are: "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" by John Denver, "Wild West Virginia" by Daniel Johnston, and "Country Boys Can Survive" by Hank Williams.
Month 3, the songs are: "West Virginia, My Home, Sweet Home" by Julian G. Hearne, "Give Me Back My Hometown" by Eric Church, and "My Tennessee Mountain Home" by Dolly Parton
Month 4, the songs are: "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry, "Morning Morgantown" by Joni Mitchell, and "The West Virginia Hills".
YARD SQUARE QUILT CHARITY AUCTION
The YSQ Charity Auction will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Berkeley Springs State Park.
If you would like to create a quilt for this year's auction, the rules are simple.
1. Must be within one inch of a 36" square.
2. Must have a 4" hanging sleeve.
3. If a panel is used, some piecework needs to be included.
4. Must have a label. Label should include the quilt name, your name, year, and quilter's
name, if quilter is someone other than yourself.
